"Hi all. I've actually been out for a while (vacation! whoo!) but I just have to chime in on the whole "is Killzone good/bad?" topic.
I reviewed the game for PSM. The issue with the review will be hitting soon, and, based on my opinion of the game, I scored it quite a bit higher than the online reviews you've been seeing.
From what I know, the online reviews were based on the same version of the game I played a month or so ago. It had level of detail and texture seam glitches, big framerate problems in one area, and, yes, nobody's mouths moved (well, maybe a couple did) when they spoke.
I brought all of these problems up to Sony, since some of them weren't on the caveat / "stuff that will be fixed before release" list we commonly get with review versions of games. I was assured by Sony that the framerate would be consistent and most, if not all, of the texture and LOD problems would be fixed.
Today I got the final, retail version of the game and popped it in. Low and behold, the framerate's good, the texture and LOD problems from the review build are largely fixed, and people's mouths move. In fact, the ally AI is even a bit better than it was in the review build, and I already thought it was pretty good on general grunts and great on your three squad-mates.
If anything, the game is better than what I reviewed, and the problems - which I took the time to ask Sony about, and expected to be fixed based on their promises - are gone.
BTW, I'm up and running on Killzone online - look for me as the very creatively named RandyPSM. There are a lot of people playing, and the servers are still being load balanced to reduce/eliminate lag, but it's tons of fun.
Hopefully our review and word of mouth will get more folks to buy this truly great game, and not be scared off by the early web reviews, which range from "hype busters" to wildly inaccurate.
