  1. Amazon UK - Wii U sales skyrocket after Xbox One reveal, lower price offer

    kVsMuhh.gif

    - 875% rises
    - held the #390 position before the conference
    - has no risen to spot #40

    http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=203348

MHU went up by 92 percent, ZombieU so a 250% increase and Mario U went up by 110%

The Xbox One’s disappointing reveal has shot up sales of the Wii U on Amazon.com. The system was at #390 before the conference, but now has shot up to #40 due to Microsoft’s glorified TV box.

This momentum should carry Nintendo right into the summer as they have big plans for the Wii U at E3 and this fall. The console race has just begun but it’s good to see gamers are picking up a system that’s dedicated to gaming first, and multimedia second.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut for Wii U confirmed, and yes, they've fixed the boss battles

-Each of the game's three boss fights have had their map layouts reworked to provide players with alternative potential strategies. New hacking challenges are available to players who focus on hacking, and stealth options are available to those who focus on stealth. You can now kill the bosses without firing a single bullet

-On Wii U the energy system has been made more forgiving by allowing for two energy cells to recharge by default on all but the hardest difficulty. This should mean players use Jensen's augmentation powers more freely.--So now, on Wii U, you can use the GamePad to see enemy health, armour type (heavy, medium or light) and loot. The idea is this will let players plan their moves better; by checking loot you'll be able to identify a target who is carrying a pocket secretary, which may contain the code for a locked door you're after, or decide not to go into a room because it's packed with heavies with loads of hit points.

-You can also use the GamePad to navigate the menus, to display the map, the augmentation system, the inventory and all the rest. "All the systems are now linked to the Neural Hub," Dugas continues. "All your maps, your inventory, your augmentation menu, your mission log, are now systems in Adam Jensen.

-There are swipe controls, too. One new feature, called grenade throwback, allows Jensen to equip a proximity detector that alerts him to a nearby grenade. So, if an enemy chucks a grenade at you, the GamePad will vibrate, and you can swipe the touch-screen to pick it up and lob it back.

-You can also use the touch-screen for the hacking mini-game, using your fingers to progress, and to punch in codes. Meanwhile, for weapons that have a scope, such as the sniper rifle, you can use your telly to centre on your target, then enter a precision mode using the touch-screen, which displays the cross-hair.

-Included in this "ultimate package" is all of the DLC, but it has been retrofitted to slot seamlessly into the main game. The Missing Link DLC is now included in the main story rather than separated out, and the pre-order bonus mission to rescue Tong's son is popped in, too.

-There's Half-Life 2-style director's commentary, what amounts to some eight hours of chat from Eidos Montreal developers. Icons dotted around the world can activate this voice over, and you're free to continue playing as you listen.

Eidos Montreal was keen to improve the graphics for the Wii U version, too. The visuals seen in The Missing Link DLC had more of an impact, Dugas says, than those in the main game, because the developers were more comfortable with their tools when they came to create them. And so, The Missing Link benefited from work done to the game's shaders, which had the knock on effect of making environmental reflections on textures were better. And the lighting system was revamped to be based on an interpretation of a formula used by real world architects during the building planning stage to simulate how light will bounce around an environment. All the visual effects seen in The Missing Link were applied to the main game for the Director's Cut.

"It's much sharper," Dugas says. "There are more nuances between the light and dark places."

You might also notice a new fog system that, according to Pedneault, "makes the atmosphere really stand out". Shadows that were choppy have been smoothed, Dugas says. "It makes a big difference."

Pedneault insists these improvements wouldn't be possible on Xbox 360 simply because there's not enough disc space available. Neither, Dugas says, would the anti-aliasing, which wasn't present in the other console versions but is in the Wii U version.

"It's more powerful on the Wii U," Dugas says. "Even some of the graphics that were improved already on the 360 for The Missing Link, we were able to go a little bit farther with the Wii U, just because of the hardware. In terms of the shadows, which are smoothed out, it's much different than the Xbox version."

As you would expect from a Director’s Cut, this ultimate Deus Ex experience also features approximately 8 hours of director's commentaries and a 45 minute “Making Of” video. The official strategy guide is also included in-game and can be accessed through the Wii U Gamepad Neural Hub at any time. Never miss a praxis kit again!

The Wii U GamePad also brings some impressive new features, including the ability to record your very own “Infologs” containing screenshots, voice recordings, drawing or typed notes as you progress through the game. You can even share your personal infologs through the Miiverse with your friends. And, most impressively, you can play Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut entirely on the GamePad – no TV required! Never be interrupted again!

Monolith Soft talks upcoming Wii U project, goal to become the next Bethesda

    Wii U project

    - will be a challenging game that will get people together

    - expect it to be both very flashy and addicting

    - decided that if they were going to jump into the next generation, they’d like to have the perfect team in order to do it the right way

    - they believe working alongside Nintendo will be a huge advantage

    - they believe they should have a better understanding o the Wii U from Nintendo

The following comments come from Monolith Soft’s Michihiko Inaba and executive producer, Hirohide Sugiura...

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugiura: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.”

And I'm sure it's not an "idle" clock speed. 1.24G is exactly in line with what we expected for a 750-based design.

So yes, the Wii U CPU is nothing to write home about, but don't compare it clock per clock with a 360 and claim it's much worse. It isn't.

If you want more evidence that MHz isn't everything, a little birdie points out that Durango (Xbox 720) is specc'ed to have a 1.6GHz CPU.

Various devs discuss the highs and lows of Wii U

“From our perspective it's a great platform. Very straight forward to code for, the GamePad integrates seamlessly into the development environment and everything more or less does what it says on the tin. We've been using the Unreal Engine for Mass Effect 3, along with one or two other bits of middleware and for the most part they've played nicely together too.“ - Tom Crago, Straight Right

“It´s been a hell of a ride! I can't say it's easier or more difficult to develop on Wii U versus other platforms. It's just different. What was difficult was working on work-in-progress hardware, but Nintendo has been very helpful about that. I think the real strength of the Wii U, its large memory, has yet to be exploited.” - Guillaume Brunier, producer Ubisoft Montpellier

Straight Right - Wii U impressions, working on ME3/Funky Barn and big mystery title

A portion of a Gamasutra interview with Tantalus CEO Tom Crago...

GS: What are your thoughts on the Wii U, after working on it extensively?

TC: We have a long history of working with Nintendo platforms. And we really like the Wii U. Right now we have three titles in development, two of which will ship in the launch window. Obviously it's a tense time right now, as Nintendo iron out the final wrinkles before launch, but the experience for us to date has been very positive.

It's a powerful machine, easy to work with, and we genuinely feel as though the GamePad enhances the experience, especially on games like Mass Effect. The fact is, when you play Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, you'll be using that controller in a very different way to how you might have played the game on PS3 or 360.

The challenge for us, of course, was to make that control experience better and more intuitive. I'm confident we've done that. The fact that you can play the whole game on the GamePad is pretty cool too.

GS: How did you end up doing so many Wii U titles?

TC: It's funny the way these things work out. Obviously we pursued the Mass Effect opportunity extremely aggressively. Once we signed that deal and started working on that game, we became pretty immersed in everything Wii U. We had a couple of other projects on the go, but ME3 was really the focus. And naturally, you're playing around with the hardware and you start to think about other ideas you have that might lend themselves to the console.

So we decided to put a bit of our own money into bringing something original to Wii U. That game, Funky Barn, has just been announced and will ship with 505 in the launch window. More recently Straight Right signed another deal for a Wii U title. It's another big one, and will ship in 2013. I expect it will be announced later this year.

  7. Rayman creator: Wii U “surprisingly powerful”, Legends using new lighting engine

Rayman creator Michel Ancel isn’t just impressed by the technology inside the Wii U GamePad. He’s also more than pleased with the console’s hardware.

Speaking with Nintendo Power this month, Ancel noted a couple of times how he finds the Wii U to be “surprisingly powerful.” Like most developers, he’s noticed that the system offers “a lot of memory”, which allows for “huge textures”.

Because of the hardware behind Wii U (and Ubisoft’s own optimizations), the Rayman Legends team has been able to implement a new lighting engine. Sprites now have proper lighting as well as shadows.

“What surprises me with Wii U is that we don’t have many technical problems. It’s really running very well, in fact. We’re not obliged to constantly optimize things. Even on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions [of Origins], we had some fill-rate issues and things like that. So it’s partly us – we improved the engine – but I think the console is quite powerful. Surprisingly powerful. And there’ a lot of memory. You can really have huge textures, and it’s crazy because sometimes the graphic artist – we built our textures in very high-dentition. They could be used in a movie. Then we compress them, but sometimes they forget to do the compression and it still works! [Laughs] So yeah, it’s quite powerful. It’s hard sometimes when you’re one of the first developers because it’s up to you to come up with solutions to certain problems. But the core elements of the console are surprisingly powerful.

“And because we’re developing for Wii U, we don’t have to worry about cross-platform optimization.

“We can push what the console can do; push it to its limits. And of course, we have a new lighting engine. In fact, the game engine for Origins was mostly just classic sprites in HD, but now we can light them and add shadows and all these things. So there is some technical innovation with the engine itself. “

  10. Wii U to allow for changeable title screens?

The 360 and PS3 allow for different themes to better personalize your in-system experience. According to the Ubisoft press release for Just Dance 4, the Wii U may allow you to change what they're calling 'Title screens'.

Uplay is a platform designed to enhance the gaming experience by rewarding players with a wide range of exclusive services and free content. In Just Dance 4, players can complete 4 different challenges to earn Uplay units.

§ Play your first song (10 units)

    § Complete 5 Dance Quests (20 units)

§ Play your first Sweat program (30 units)

    § Get 5 stars on a Song (40 units)

These Uplay units can be used on all Ubisoft titles whatever the format. More specifically, on Just Dance 4, players can get 4 exclusive bonuses:

    § A New Title screen on Wii U (10 units) // A new X360 Theme on Xbox360 (10 units) // A new Wallpaper on PS3 (10 units)

    http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=186938

  11. More unannounced Wii U games coming, some releasing during launch window

A number of new Wii U games were confirmed at Nintendo’s press conference a few weeks back. There were some pretty big titles in that group: Bayonetta 2, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Even though Nintendo did announce new games for the console, even more are on the way – and some will be released sooner rather than later.

When IGN prodded Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, looking to obtain more information for interested fans, he told the site that more unannounced games are in the works, some of which will be available “during the launch window”. Unfortunately, Reggie wouldn’t say when we’ll learn about these mysterious releases.

Capcom explains why Monster Hunter jumped from Sony to Nintendo platforms

“Other than what we’ve already announced, we don’t have anything that we’re planning. The way that we work with Monster Hunter games is that we see them as single entities, so we don’t develop for one platform and then think about porting it to another platform. The situation with the 3DS and the Wii U is that we wanted people to play this game a lot, so that’s why we have taken this [multi-platform] approach with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. But it doesn’t mean we’ll do that with new entries.

The series did start out on Sony platforms, but it’s just realistic to think that it can’t continue on one platform forever. With Monster Hunter 4, it actually just came down to timing - we were developing a new Monster Hunter and the 3DS hardware had just come out, so we figured it was probably the best platform for us to develop it on. You have two screens, with action on top and menus on the bottom, and there’s the 3D view as well. It just made sense to put it onto 3DS.” - Monster Hunter series creator and producer Ryozo Tsujimoto

  13. No Bayonetta 2 without Nintendo, Platinum thinking about GamePad features, teaser trailer talk

Atsushi Inaba, executive director at Platinum Games, has given a straight answer about Nintendo’s involvement with Bayonetta 2.

According to Inaba, there wouldn’t be a sequel if the company hadn’t decided to collaborate with Platinum on the project.

“Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes.”

Inaba says that even though Bayonetta 2 will be hitting a brand new system – and the IP is coming to a Nintendo console for the first time – he doesn’t see the move “as a change in platform.”

“We are not viewing this as a change of platform. We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together [with us]. As a result the platform became the Wii U.”

The core of Bayonetta won’t be changing, even though the follow-up is in development for new hardware. That’s because Platinum makes the base of its games on PC. Inaba did note that Platinum has been thinking about the Wii U’s unique controller though, and the team is “putting extra thought into how to use these differentiating features.”

“We create the basic framework of our games on the PC, so even though the hardware changes it doesn’t influence the creation of our games. We’ve already developed our own engine to work with multiple platforms. Because of the Wii U GamePad, we are putting extra thought into how to use these differentiating features. There’s a difference in the game design side, but we are enjoying the challenges of creating games for new hardware.”

Inaba also touched on Bayonetta 2′s debut teaser. It’s very much like the first video for the original title.

Inaba commented on the similarities between the two teasers:

“Toward the end of development of Bayonetta, I was talking with Kamiya-san and Hashimoto-san, and they said ‘If Bayonetta 2 ever happens, we want the teaser trailer to be the same as [the first] Bayonetta’. We wanted to make it the same because Bayonetta is a title that has been loved by many people and we wanted fans to say ‘Oh! Bayonetta’s back again!’ All of the new things you see in the trailer, we can’t talk about at all at this point. We’re leaving it up to your imagination.”

"Developing on new hardware in itself was a challenge, and also making that launch date was a challenge," he said. "But from a visual standpoint, based on the performance of the Wii U, we knew the game had the capability of having much better graphics than games on PS3 and Xbox 360. Make no mistake, from a visual standpoint, it is able to produce better graphics. So our challenge was to make a higher quality graphics. We were able to meet that."

"While the visuals are great, as is being able to improve them, we had to deal with the lower CPU power and how we can get around that issue," he said.

"Actually, we're still working on that. If you see the demo on the show floor and you try it, you'll probably feel it's not up to the PS3 level. But we're working on it!"

According to Suzuki, the main issue is that developers are still wrapping their head around the CPU, and so are yet to work out how best to use it.

"For the PS3 it has multiple CPUs and an SPU, so you can calculate the various motions of the characters on the CPU so overall it runs smoothly," Suzuki explained. "The Xbox 360 CPUs are formulated so they can spread out the processing power so things run efficiently.

"With the Wii U being new hardware, we're still getting used to developing for it, so there are still a lot of things we don't know yet to bring out the most of the processing power. There's a lot that still needs to be explored in that area."

Nie będę łopatologicznie Tobie tłumaczył jakie były różnice w mocy systemowej pomiedzy ps2 i Wii . Każdy kto posiadał obydwa systemy zauważył różnicę.

    Co do mocy WiiU :

    - Wii U supports full HD 1080p, uses a "GPGPU." Main mem: 1 GB. System: 1 GB. Total: 2GB

    - Games use only 1 GB of main memory. System memory is for OS. Game discs 25 GB, 22.5 MB/s

  17. Demon Tribe zmierza na WiiU :

    demon.png

The countdown is over, and they just previewed the game on the Sega Apps section of the TGS 2012 Stream they're having. What is the game? It's some sort of action game where you transform into a demon and you fight other demons. It looks like a top down action game. Beyond that... there are no details.

They said they can't reveal the platform, or any actual details, but the game is due worldwide this Winter. Wut? Please go to the Sega Apps Booth to get a fake tattoo. Kthxbye. WUT?!

(Also the source code for the site says WiiU, PSP, Vita. Lol.)
